I have a LinkedIn account and love it! Its a great networking tool used by business and young\professionals. Its basically a cross between Twitter and Facebook, without all of the photos...The photos that actually destroy people reputation before they even get an interview. Trust me, I have hired people for a company before and the first thing I did was Google their name. The first links that normally pop up are Facebook and LinkedIn. I would confirm the person buy using the information provided on the application. What I found is people need to be worrying about updating LinkedIn more than their status/pictures on Facebook. What Im getting at is LinkedIn is a very helpful\free tool to get you 1 step closer to earning your first million!
